MTV Push: Bastille

The origins of Bastille lie in the creative mind of singer-songwriter Dan Smith, whose embrace of multi-eclectic musical styles has led to one of the most exciting sounds in new music today: pop that is absorbing and genre defining without ever being formulaic. Growing up, he listened to Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys and Fugees, all of which gave him the requisite understanding of harmonies and hooks. But he was also influenced by art house and horror films, as well as English literature.
Though Bastille is Smith’s brainchild, onstage, the band consists of four members, including Chris Wood on drums, bassist Will Farquarson, and Kyle Simmons as keyboardist. The four members effortlessly interchange, harmonise and create a textured musical tapestry.
Their loyal fans have followed Bastille from their first live show in Brighton in April 2011. Now, as March’s MTV PUSH artist, they’re poised to bring that unique sound to fans all over the world!
